U.S. Senate candidate seeks student vote in Athens
The Athens Post
U.S. Representative Sherrod Brown lauded his own voting record on higher education spending yesterday at Baker University Center in a rally designed to drum up support for his U.S. senate campaign.
Brown, a Democrat who is running against incumbent Republican Mike DeWine, leaned heavily against the podium and spoke in a hoarse, raspy voice to a crowd of more than 150 Ohio University students and Athens residents. The stop at OU was Brown’s 10th personal appearance in a five-day, 12-stop tour of Ohio colleges and universities.
“It’s going to be students this year that make the difference,” Brown said.
Brown also attacked his opponent’s voting record, saying DeWine voted to increase tax breaks for the wealthy instead of providing financial support for middle class families trying to send their kids to college. He also attacked his opponent for voting for the war in Iraq.
