DeWine, GOP taking heat over facts in TV ad
Columbus Dispatch
A controversial ad on behalf of GOP Sen. Mike DeWine might be off the air.
A number of Ohio TV stations, including major central Ohio stations, indicated yesterday that they no longer would air a commercial produced by the Republican National Committee and designed to boost DeWine. The action was taken after Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown complained that the ad was based on false information.
The national Republicans have insisted that the ad is accurate. But, last night, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee said that in response to a "cease and desist" letter from the Brown campaign, a Republican National Committee attorney said the RNC would pull the ad, which concerned the circumstances surrounding payment of unemployment taxes by a Brown congressional campaign.
...It is the second time in the past four months that serious questions have been raised about a commercial aired by DeWine or his GOP allies. This summer, DeWine aired a commercial that featured an image of smoke pouring from the World Trade Center. DeWine said that when he learned that a producer had added the smoke, he ordered the image removed.
