Poll position: Democrats gain support in traditionally Republican Allen County
Lima News
Voters in a very Republican Allen County are supporting some Democrats this year, according to a poll conducted this week by The Lima News.
Democratic candidates for governor and senator lead in the poll, and Republican Matt Huffman, running for state representative, failed to crack 50 percent against Democratic challenger Dennis Shreefer.
The Democratic support is rare for a county that voted for President Bush in 2004 by a nearly 2-to-1 margin, but the support for Strickland and Brown matches other statewide polls.
The Lima News poll, conducted Wednesday, is published with a 93 percent confidence level and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.
...Democrat Sherrod Brown also leads in his bid to unseat Republican Sen. Mike DeWine, 48 percent to 44 percent, with 8 percent undecided.
Brown’s support centers in the city, where he leads by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. Strickland also does well in the city, where he bests Blackwell with 66 percent support.
