2 New Sherrod Brown TV Spots:  Mike DeWine Sold Out the Middle Class

AMHERST, OH -- The Sherrod Brown for Senate campaign today announced two new television spots that promote Brown's record of voting to create jobs and reduce costs for middle class families.  As tuition at four-year public universities in Ohio doubled over the past 5 years, DeWine voted against expanding student loans, Pell Grants, and tuition tax credits.  After accepting more than $1 million from corporations that outsource jobs, DeWine voted for every unfair trade agreement before Congress.  Ohio has lost nearly 200,000 manufacturing jobs since 2000 under Senator DeWine.

"After accepting millions in contributions from special interests, Senator DeWine sold out middle class families in Washington," said Ben LaBolt, spokesman for Representative Sherrod Brown (D-OH).  "As tuition costs doubled for Ohio students, Mike DeWine voted to block access to higher education for young Ohioans and increase the debt they will pay for years to come.  Mike DeWine is more concerned about protecting his own job and raising money for his campaign coffers than supporting middle class families.  Sherrod Brown puts middle class families first by leading the fight to bring jobs back to Ohio and to lower the cost-of-living that is breaking the budgets of most Ohioans."
 
According to the Associated Press, costs for Ohioans are rising rapidly.  Ohioans' earnings have grown more slowly than the national average while health care costs have skyrocketed, at or above the national level [10/18/06].  DeWine voted against helping middle class families by voting to help corporations that outsource jobs, for legislation that rewarded special interests like the drug and oil companies instead of Ohioans, and making it harder for students to obtain a college education.
