DeWine Lies to Ohio Voters in Latest Ad; Brown Campaign Asks for Ads to be Pulled

AMHERST, OH - In a desperate attempt to save his job, Ohio Republican incumbent Senator Mike DeWine, along with the RNC, lied to Ohio voters in their latest round of coordinated attack ads.  DeWine, who yesterday slipped further in 3 public polls, has increased his campaign mudslinging in recent weeks.

"Senator DeWine's campaign is in deep trouble and everyone knows it," said campaign spokesperson Joanna Kuebler.  "First he betrayed Ohio's middle class by championing policies that have sent jobs overseas, and tuition and health care costs through the roof. And now, he has blatantly lied to them. He has abdicated accountability and thrown his credibility under a bus. This is why Ohio voters want, and will vote, for change."

In December 1993, Brown's house reelection campaign was issued a notice to pay unemployment taxes.  The Ohio Bureau of Employment Services confirmed payment in April 1994.

The glitch may be the fault of the Ohio state government.

The DeWine campaign already pulled down one advertisement when it was found that they had doctored footage of the burning Twin Towers.  This week, the Army found that another DeWine ad "is counter to Defense Department directives and army policy" because it features a soldier in uniform [Stars and Stripes 10/17/06]. DeWine previously accused Senator John Glenn, who served honorably in Korea, of being a Communist sympathizer. The DeWine campaign hired the same firm that created the Swift Boat attack ads against Senator Kerry in 2004 to produce its advertising.

"The DeWine campaign and the Republican Party must immediately pull down yet another advertisement that deceived voters with an attack we have proven to be false," added Kuebler.  "Senator DeWine should apologize for deceiving Ohioans in a last-ditch attempt to save his career."
