Chip in $20 to support Sherrod Brown's Campaign

International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Endorses Senator Sherrod Brown for Reelection

COLUMBUS, OH  – Today, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) endorsed Senator Sherrod Brown for reelection. IUPAT and its 4,000 Ohio members are endorsing Sherrod because they know he is fighting to give workers a voice and make sure their hard work pays off.

“IUPAT workers are crucial to Ohio’s construction industry, and I am honored to have them by my side in our fight for the Dignity of Work,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “From restoring the pensions of over 3,500 Ohio IUPAT workers, to securing a project labor agreement for Intel’s new semiconductor plant which will create thousands of new union-jobs in Ohio, IUPAT workers know I will always fight for them. I look forward to continuing to work with IUPAT to ensure hard work pays off for every worker.”

“Sherrod Brown has been a champion for workers since his earliest days of public service. He has a deep understanding of the issues that face our members and their families,” said IUPAT District Council 6 Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer Jim Sherwood. “His unwavering support of project labor agreements and prevailing wages along with his strong opposition of right to work verifies his understanding of their main work-related issues. Sherrod Brown’s understanding goes deeper than that, he understands the dinner table issues our families discuss, their concerns and their optimism. His support and hard work reaching across the aisle to help pass the infrastructure bill, CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act and his support of the PLA order makes our endorsement of Sherrod Brown a lock. DC 6 will do what we do best, feet on the street to help re-elect Sherrod Brown as our Senator for Ohio.”

“Whether in Washington, D.C. or back at home, Senator Brown never wavers from his top priority: fighting for Ohio workers,” says IUPAT General President Jim Williams, Jr. “We like to say in the IUPAT that when you have our back, we’ll have yours – which makes endorsing Sherrod Brown an easy decision. From now until election day, we will be working hard to make sure that next year Senator Brown is back in Congress to continue being a champion for Ohio and for working people everywhere.”

Sherrod has always fought for IUPAT workers  and the Dignity of Work to make sure hard work pays off for everyone:

  • Sherrod introduced the Protecting the Right to Organize Act to protect workers’ rights to bargain for fairer wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
  • Sherrod introduced the Restoring Overtime Pay Act to enshrine overtime pay protections into law and expand who qualifies for overtime pay so millions more Americans are paid for the hours they work.
  • For over a decade, Sherrod has partnered with organizations and labor unions to host Summer Manufacturing Camps to teach young Ohioans about the manufacturing industry and the range of jobs within the industry.
  • Sherrod successfully fought to expand Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council’s Central Ohio Building Futures Program – which supported IUPAT – to provide Ohioans with a path to the middle class and prepare them for a good-paying, union job.
  • When Wall Street gambled away workers’ retirement savings, Sherrod led the years-long fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act – which successfully saved the pensions of over 3,500 IUPAT members.
  • Sherrod worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with prevailing wage requirements, creating good-paying, union jobs for workers across Ohio rebuilding our infrastructure.
  • Sherrod led the CHIPS and Science Act to ensure the future of technology is built in Ohio, by Ohio workers. Sherrod secured a project labor agreement for workers building the new Intel plant in New Albany to ensure they are protected on the job.
  • Sherrod championed the Child Tax Credit expansion to provide working families with financial relief to accommodate the rising prices of healthcare, childcare, and housing.
