Toledo Blade Editorial Board Praises Sherrod’s Work To Lower Cost of Insulin For All Ohioans

COLUMBUS, OH  – The Toledo Blade Editorial Board is praising Sherrod’s work to lower the cost of insulin, calling it the “right move” for Ohioans. Sherrod wrote the legislation that capped the cost of insulin at $35 for seniors on Medicare which is expected to save Ohioans more than $150 million this year.

Toledo Blade: Insulin cap right move
Editorial Board – April 20, 2024

  • U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) was in Toledo on Monday at the Neighborhood Health Association to talk about the newly affordable insulin prices.
  • Until the ability to negotiate certain drugs was enacted in the Inflation Reduction Act, people could be charged as much as $400 per refill. The $35 cap is about half what a typical Medicare recipient had to pay for a monthly refill.
  • The law also caps total annual outlays out of pocket at $3,300 for Medicare recipients, to fall to $2,000 in 2025.
  • Affordable insulin should be available to everyone who needs it, since the drug is the difference between life and death.
  • It’s in the public’s interest to hear from their lawmakers and to learn about good policy that has been enacted for the good of the public.
