Chip in $20 to support Sherrod Brown's Campaign

The United Steelworkers Endorse Senator Sherrod Brown for Reelection

COLUMBUS, OH  – Today, the United Steelworkers (USW) endorsed Senator Sherrod Brown for reelection, citing Sherrod’s efforts to save the pensions of over 64,000 USW members in Ohio. USW represents 70,000 Ohioans – from steel mill workers, tire makers, and brass producers to school district faculty in Muskingum County and hospital employees at Akron General Medical Center. From fighting for strong Buy America policies to urging the Biden Administration to protect Ohio’s steelworkers, Sherrod has a proven track record fighting for Ohio’s steel industry.

“I will always fight for Ohio steelworkers and their jobs – from standing up to trade cheats and working to level the playing field to ensuring that infrastructure projects built with taxpayer dollars use American iron and steel,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “USW knows the importance of giving workers a seat at the table and providing training so all Ohioans have a path to the middle class. I am honored to have them by my side in our fight to make sure hard work pays off for everyone.”

“United Steelworkers-District 1 is proud to endorse and support Senator Sherrod Brown for re-election to the United States Senate,” said USW District 1 Director Donnie Blatt. “There is no better advocate for fair and responsible trade that allows for American businesses to compete globally and positions American union workers to be more successful through collective bargaining.”

“Sherrod Brown is one of the few public servants who doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. He drives a union-made vehicle, he wears union-made clothing and he has always supported collective bargaining,” said USW Sub-District 1 Director James H. Walker. “Every time there is a fight for social or economic justice, whether it be fair trade, protecting pensions or fair wages and health care, Sherrod Brown sides with the American worker. USW Sub-District 1 is proud to support Sherrod Brown for Senate because he always supports us and our members.”

“Senator Brown has spent his entire career fighting not just for issues important to labor unions but for all working people of Ohio on every issue important to creating a better standard of living for all Ohioans,” said USW Sub-District 2 Director Bill Conner. “He has been there every single time we needed his support including standing on the picket line. Senator Brown has stood firmly on the side of labor, veterans and our seniors in Ohio and we now need to firmly stand up and support him! Ohio has never had a better advocate than Senator Brown!”

“Senator Sherrod Brown has always been a voice for working people in the U.S. Senate,” said USW Sub-District 5 Director Carl Vineyard. “His voting record on issues that help workers and families is proof of his commitment to working people in Ohio. I am proud to support Senator Sherrod Brown for re-election in 2024.”

Sherrod has always fought for USW workers and the Dignity of Work to make sure hard work pays off for everyone:

  • Sherrod continues to urge the Biden Administration to stop Nippon Steel’s acquisition of US Steel to protect Ohio’s steel industry.
  • Sherrod led the fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act and successfully saved the pensions of over 64,000 USW workers.
  • Sherrod wrote the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act which helped the Cleveland-Cliffs Middletown Works Plant install new systems that dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Sherrod secured significant Buy America provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package.
  • Sherrod condemned the U.S. International Trade Commission’s (ITC) ruling after testifying to push them to extend anti-dumping policies and protect Ohio’s steel industry from unfair trade practices.
  • Sherrod led efforts to reject three proposed EPA regulations that would harm Ohio’s steelworkers and steel industry.
  • Sherrod introduced the Protecting the Right to Organize Act to protect workers’ rights to bargain for fairer wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.

  • Sherrod led the CHIPS and Science Act to ensure the future of technology is built in Ohio, by Ohio workers.
  • For over a decade, Sherrod has partnered with organizations and labor unions to host Summer Manufacturing Camps to teach young Ohioans about the manufacturing industry and the range of jobs within the industry.
