Sherrod Brown Joins “Workers for Sherrod” Statewide Tour in Toledo

TOLEDO, OH  – Today, Sherrod joined Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga, Northwest Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary and Business Manager Shaun Enright, and LiUNA 500 Business Manager David Fleetwood for the Toledo stop of the “Workers for Sherrod” statewide tour.

“I’m grateful for the support of this coalition that will help us engage with workers across Ohio and talk about our work together, whether that’s standing up to Wall Street to save Ohioans’ pensions or restoring overtime pay to thousands who earned it. Ohioans know I’ll work with anyone when it’s right and I’ll stand up to anyone who gets in the way,” said Sherrod.

Earlier this month, Sherrod joined labor leaders to kick off “Workers for Sherrod,” which is highlighting Sherrod’s record delivering for Ohio workers and fighting for the Dignity of Work – the belief that hard work should pay off for everyone. Ohio workers are lining up behind Sherrod, citing his fight to save the pensions of over 100,000 Ohio workers and his commitment to making sure every family has a path to the middle class.

“Ohio voters know Sherrod wakes up every day and fights for the Dignity of Work, and that’s why we have his back and that’s why he’ll win reelection,” said Northwest Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary and Business Manager Shaun Enright.

“Under Sherrod’s leadership, the lives of working families are undeniably better. That’s why we’re going to do everything we can to make sure working families across Ohio understand the stakes of this election and why we must keep Ohio’s best advocate for working families in the Senate,” said LiUNA 500 Business Manager David Fleetwood.

“Because of Sherrod’s work, Ohio infrastructure – including local projects here in Toledo – will be built by Ohio workers with American-made materials,” said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. “We never have to wonder about where Sherrod stands: he always stands with Ohio workers.”

Sherrod has always fought for workers and the Dignity of Work to make sure hard work pays off for everyone:

  • Sherrod led the fight to save the pensions of over 100,000 Ohioans through the Butch Lewis Act, securing $19.1 million in pension funding for Toledo Roofers Local 134.
  • Sherrod has always stood up against bad trade deals like NAFTA that shipped Ohio jobs overseas and is fighting to make sure workers have a seat at the table for all trade agreements.
  • Sherrod worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with prevailing wage requirements, creating good-paying jobs for workers in the trades across Ohio rebuilding our infrastructure.
  • Sherrod introduced the Restoring Overtime Pay Act to enshrine overtime pay protections into law and expand who qualifies for overtime pay so millions more Americans are paid for the hours they work.
  • Sherrod is also working to grow the next generation of Ohio workers by organizing summer manufacturing camps across Ohio that give young people an opportunity to learn about a future in the industry.
