FROM:          Friends of Sherrod Brown Campaign
RE:                  Sherrod’s Fight for Ohio Propels Campaign in Final 100 Days

OVERVIEW: With 100 days left until election day, Sherrod’s fight for Ohio is propelling his campaign. In the final stretch of this campaign, Ohioans will continue to see the clear choice in this race: while Sherrod fights for Ohio, his opponent Bernie Moreno is out for himself.

Sherrod has a record of winning tough elections because he always fights for Ohioans and has the momentum, the infrastructure, and the enthusiasm to win again:

  • Sherrod’s campaign and the Ohio Democratic Party have built an unprecedented grassroots coordinated operation with over 80 paid-staff. To date, the Organizing for Ohio campaign has mobilized more than 2,000 unique volunteers and knocked over 125,000 doors statewide.
  • The Friends of Sherrod Brown campaign has received donations from all 88 Ohio counties and has consistently broken Ohio fundraising records, including raising $12.8 million last quarter – nearly three times more than his opponent.
  • The Friends of Sherrod Brown campaign has been running positive advertisements for months on Sherrod’s accomplishments like lowering the cost of prescription drugs, saving over 100,000 Ohio workers’ pensions, working with Republicans to protect Ohioans from dangerous fentanyl, and passing the strongest ever Buy America provisions to level the playing field for Ohio workers.

Ohioans know Sherrod will always fight for them and will stand up to anyone who gets in the way – from greedy corporations, to special interests, to presidents of both parties.

  • Sherrod worked with Republicans to successfully pass the FEND Off Fentanyl Act to protect Ohioans from dangerous fentanyl by cracking down on the chemical suppliers in China and the drug traffickers in Mexico and to provide resources for law enforcement to keep fentanyl out of Ohio communities.
  • When Wall Street gambled away workers’ retirement savings, Sherrod led the years-long fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act – which successfully saved the pensions of over 100,000 Ohioans – and named the bill after an Ohio Teamster.
  • Sherrod stood up to Big Pharma and championed legislation to cap the cost of insulin at $35 for Medicare recipients and his fight continues today to cap it for all Ohioans who rely on insulin.
  • Sherrod wrote and passed the bipartisan PACT Act to secure healthcare and benefits for veterans exposed to toxins and burn pits during their service, which has helped connect almost 32,000 Ohio veterans to healthcare.
  • Sherrod led the CHIPS and Science Act and secured the new Intel plant in New Albany which will create 10,000 new jobs in Ohio and ensure the future of technology is built in Ohio, by Ohio workers.

While Sherrod fights for Ohio, Bernie Moreno continues to prove that he is only looking out for himself and can’t be trusted – from the “string of inconsistencies that have dogged his campaign,” to refusing to pay his workers the overtime they earned and destroying the evidence to get out of it, to supporting a national abortion ban that would overturn the will of Ohioans.

  • Bernie Moreno has shown Ohioans he can’t be trusted and has faced scrutiny for lies he has told on the campaign trail – including lying about refusing to sell the Chinese-made Buick Envision which contributed to Ohio auto jobs being shipped overseas, lying about his his phony “riches-to-rags-to-riches” story, and lying about bringing 5G wireless infrastructure to Cleveland.
  • Bernie Moreno refused to pay his workers the overtime they’d earned, then deliberately destroyed evidence that he was legally required to keep to get out of it. Moreno was punished by the judge in the case, found liable for wage theft by a jury, and ordered to pay over $400,000 in damages before he settled over a dozen other cases of wage theft.

With 100 days left, here’s what Ohioans are saying about the choice between Sherrod, who always fights for them, and Moreno:

  • Jeff Adams, United Auto Workers Local 1219 President: “As a car dealer, Moreno refused to pay his employees overtime wages they earned, and he went as far as to shred evidence to try to get away with it, and then he got caught when he repeatedly lied about it. Even after fact-checks found his excuses to be false, he kept lying.”
  • Brad Wendel, UA Local 776 Business Manager“Ohio workers have no better champion than Sherrod Brown, and we have to make sure he’s re-elected this November. From standing with us on the picket lines for better wages and benefits to standing up to his own party to prevent bad trade deals that hurt Ohio workers, Sherrod has always stood on our side, and thanks to Sherrod’s work, we’re seeing real results right here in Lima.”
  • Cherie Lyn“Bernie Moreno, who is running for U.S. Senate, supports a national abortion ban, and if he were elected to the Senate he would overrule the will of thousands of voters who made their voices heard on reproductive rights last year. Ohioans made it clear where we stand. Sherrod Brown has also made it clear he stands with us and has always been an advocate for a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions. Moreno doesn’t care that Ohioans overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to choose. Frankly, it’s disrespectful of Moreno to campaign on supporting a national abortion ban when he knows that flies directly in the face of what Ohioans voted for last fall.”

THE BOTTOM LINE: Sherrod has a proven track record fighting for Ohioans that makes him uniquely qualified to represent Ohioans and his propelling his campaign in the final stretch. With 100 days left until election day, Ohioans will continue to see that while Sherrod fights for them, Moreno only looks out for himself.
