Chip in $20 to support Sherrod Brown's Campaign

Sherrod Marks National Social Security Day

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, on National Social Security Day, Senator Sherrod Brown and President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare (NCPSSM) Max Richtman release the following statements:

“I will always fight to protect Social Security from political attacks and make sure Ohioans have the benefits they’ve earned,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “That’s why I introduced legislation to strengthen and expand Social Security and fought to ensure benefits keep up with Ohioans’ cost of living. I will always oppose efforts to raise the retirement age and privatize Social Security and will always stand up to special interests who want to make it harder for Ohioans to get the benefits they’ve earned.”

“Sherrod Brown has consistently shown Ohioans that they can count on him to protect their Social Security, from standing up to special interests to championing legislation to protect and expand benefits,” said NCPSSM President and CEO, Max Richtman. “The contrast is clear in Ohio’s Senate race: Sherrod Brown will always fight for Ohioans – while Bernie Moreno only looks out for himself.”

Sherrod has been a leader in the fight to protect Social Security and Medicare and has introduced legislation to strengthen Social Security and ensure benefits keep up with Ohioans’ cost of living. Sherrod has also opposed efforts to raise the retirement age or privatize Social Security. Meanwhile, his opponent Bernie Moreo called for a government shutdown, which would have put Ohioans’ Social Security payments at risk.

Sherrod will always fight to ensure Ohioans receive the benefits they deserve:

  • Sherrod is leading the fight to pass the Social Security Fairness Act to ensure first responders and teachers can receive their full Social Security benefits.
  • Sherrod introduced the Strengthening Social Security Act to ensure Social Security benefits keep up with the cost of living.
  • Sherrod introduced the bipartisan SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act and the Supplemental Security Income Restoration Act to make sure older Americans are prepared for financial emergencies without putting their benefits at risk.
  • The National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare endorsed Sherrod’s reelection.
