Friends of Sherrod Brown Campaign Launches “Latinos and Hispanics for Sherrod” Coalition

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, the Friends of Sherrod Brown campaign launched “Latinos and Hispanics for Sherrod,” a coalition to highlight Sherrod’s record supporting Ohio’s Latino and Hispanic communities, delivering for Ohio families, and fighting to make sure hard work pays off for all Ohioans – no matter who you are, where you live, or what you do.

“Latino and Hispanic Ohioans know I will always fight for them, from lowering costs to cutting taxes to creating jobs. I’ve always believed that when you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work, and I’m honored to have Ohio’s Latino and Hispanic communities by my side in our fight to make sure hard work pays off for all Ohioans,” said Senator Sherrod Brown.

“Latinos and Hispanics for Sherrod” co-chairs Cleveland City Councilwoman Jasmin Santana and Columbus City Councilwoman Lourdes Barroso de Padilla cited Sherrod’s record fighting for Ohio’s Latino and Hispanic communities.

“Sherrod lives every day guided by the belief that all work has dignity – no matter who you are. He knows there is no place for discrimination in our country, that’s why he has led efforts to crack down on discrimination in the housing industry and make higher education and apprenticeship programs more affordable for all Ohioans,” said Cleveland City Councilwoman Jasmin Santana. “I’m proud to stand by Sherrod’s side in his reelection because I know that Ohio’s Latino and Hispanic communities can count on him.”

“As a first-generation Cuban-American and the first Latina on the Columbus City Council, I know how important it is to have a Senator that will represent us and fight for us. And Sherrod Brown has always fought for Ohioans,” said Columbus City Councilwoman Lourdes Barroso de Padilla. “Sherrod is committed to leveling the playing field for all Ohioans, from leading legislation to protect workers’ rights, to fighting for fair wages and safe working conditions, to standing up to presidents of both parties and special interests – like Wall Street and Big Pharma – when it’s right for Ohioans. It’s clear that Sherrod is the only – and best – choice to represent Ohioans, that’s why I’m proud to stand with Sherrod.”

Sherrod fights for all Ohioans no matter who you are, where you live, or what you look like:

  • Sherrod has always supported the DREAM Act and the DACA program to create a path to citizenship for young people who are working, going to school, paying taxes and contributing to their communities.
  • Sherrod introduced the Protecting the Right to Organize Act to protect workers’ rights to bargain for fairer wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
  • Sherrod stood up to Big Pharma and championed legislation to cap the cost of insulin at $35 for Medicare recipients. Sherrod is now fighting to cap the cost of insulin for all Americans.
  • Sherrod championed the Child Tax Credit expansion to provide working families with financial relief to accommodate the rising prices of healthcare, childcare, and housing.
  • Sherrod introduced the Stop Predatory Investing Act to make home ownership more affordable and is standing up to predatory housing investors to ensure no one is discriminated against in the house sector.
  • Sherrod supported and advocated for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to protect voting rights.
  • Sherrod is working to make the internet more affordable by extending the Affordable Connectivity Program and cutting internet costs for more than one million Ohio households.
  • Sherrod is working to expand the next generation of Ohio workers by organizing summer manufacturing camps across Ohio that give young people an opportunity to learn about a future in the industry.
