Republican, Independent Ohioans Slam Bernie Moreno For Mocking Ohio Women For Wanting to Make Their Own Health Care Decisions

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Republican and Independent Ohioans slammed Bernie Moreno outside a closed-door Moreno event for insulting Ohioans by calling women “a little crazy” for wanting to make their own health care decisions. The comments were first reported by WCMH earlier this week.

While Sherrod stands with the majority of Ohioans who believe a woman’s health care decisions should be between her and their doctor, Moreno has said he is “100% pro-life with no exceptions” and “absolute pro-life, no exceptions” and would support a national abortion ban, overturning the will of Ohioans who voted overwhelmingly to enshrine abortion rights into the state constitution just last year.

“Call me crazy, but I believe that Bernie Moreno has no business involving himself in a woman’s health care decisions,” said Tammy Krings, an Independent. “Bernie Moreno thinks he knows better than the 57% of Ohioans – Republican, Independent, Democrat, women, men, suburban, urban, rural – who cast our votes last year to pass Issue 1 to protect our reproductive rights, and the rights of our daughters, granddaughters, sisters, and friends.”

“When I heard Moreno’s comments, I heard a politician insulting me for caring about an issue that impacts every woman in my life,” said Ed Dunn, a lifelong Republican. “Moreno has said he would overturn the will of voters like me by passing a national abortion ban, and let’s be very clear, he is mocking Ohioans because he thinks he knows better than us.”

“Bernie Moreno believes he should make a woman’s health care decisions and said he would vote for federal legislation to ban abortion, which would overrule our voices,” said Lea Macekyo, a Republican. “But more than that, he insulted and mocked all Ohioans who believe a woman’s health care decisions should be between women and their doctor. The fact that he can’t understand why women care about this issue speaks to who he is.”
