MARIETTA, OH – Today, Senator Sherrod Brown joined Ohio mineworkers and local labor leaders in Marietta to highlight the stakes of the upcoming election and Sherrod’s work fighting for Ohio workers.
Sherrod helped save the pensions and healthcare for Ohio miners through his Bipartisan American Miners Act. Ohio mineworkers were also instrumental in passing Sherrod’s Butch Lewis Act, which saved the pensions of 100,000 Ohioans. Sherrod continues to push the Labor Department to strengthen silica standards and ensure miners suffering from black lung disease receive the care and compensation they deserve.
“I’m grateful to have Ohio mineworkers by my side in our fight for the Dignity of Work – the idea that hard work should pay off for everyone – no matter who you are, where you live, or what you do,” said Sherrod. “I will always fight to make sure Ohio mineworkers receive the health care and benefits they’ve earned so they can retire with dignity, whether it’s cutting through red tape to protect their pensions or pushing for stronger rules to protect Ohio miners from silica dust.”

Sherrod will always fight for workers and the Dignity of Work because no matter who you are, where you live, or what job you do, he understands your work has dignity:
- Sherrod led the Bipartisan American Miners Act to protect Ohio miners’ pensions and healthcare.
- When Wall Street gambled away workers’ retirement savings, Sherrod led the years-long fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act alongside Ohio mineworkers, which successfully saved the pensions of over 100,000 Ohioans.
- Sherrod secured new rules to better protect Ohio miners from silica dust.
- Sherrod is fighting to ensure miners suffering from black lung disease receive the care and compensation they deserve by leading the Black Lung Benefits Improvement Act and supporting the Black Lung Benefit. Sherrod is also working to support the families of miners who passed away due to black lung disease through the Relief for Survivors of Miners Act.
- Sherrod introduced the Restoring Overtime Pay Act to enshrine overtime pay protections into law and expand who qualifies for overtime pay so millions more Americans are paid for the hours they work.
