NEW: Poll shows Sherrod Brown down 2 points to his opponent

Sherrod Stands with Labor Leaders, Ohio Workers in Lima

LIMA, OH – Today, Sherrod Brown joined Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Mike Knisley, Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga, Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians Local 776 Business Manager Brad Wendel and local workers in Lima to highlight the stakes of the upcoming election and Sherrod’s fight for the Dignity of Work.

“When you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work. That’s how I’ve always done this job, why I’m running for reelection, and why I’m grateful to have Ohio workers by my side,” said Sherrod. “Whether it’s standing up to Wall Street to save the pensions of 100,000 Ohio workers, always standing against bad trade deals that ship Ohio jobs overseas, or fighting to ensure Ohio remains at the forefront of the manufacturing industry, Ohioans know I’ll work with anyone when it’s right for Ohio and stand up to anyone who gets in the way.”

“Sherrod is investing in the next generation of Ohio workers and is fighting to create a path to the middle class for all Ohioans,” said Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Executive Secretary Mike Knisley. “The Building Trades know that Sherrod will stand up to anyone when it’s right for us. Under his leadership, the lives of Ohioans are undeniably better.”

“I can confidently say the choice for Senate in Ohio is crystal clear. Sherrod has consistently stood by Ohio workers, and I’ve had the privilege of witnessing his steadfast dedication firsthand,” said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. “The Dignity of Work is more than just a slogan for Sherrod, it’s how he wakes up and does his job every day.”

“Sherrod fights for workers in Lima and throughout the state because he understands that ALL work has dignity, no matter who you are, where you live, or what you do. His record speaks for itself: from standing with us on the picket lines for better wages and benefits to standing up to his own party to prevent bad trade deals that hurt Ohio workers, Sherrod has always stood on our side,” said Lima UA Local 776 Business Manager Brad Wendel.

Ohio workers are backing Sherrod because of his record of delivering for working families and fighting for the Dignity of Work, the belief that hard work should pay off for everyone. While Sherrod fights for Ohioans, Bernie Moreno has made it clear he only looks out for himself – from “stiffing” his workers out of the overtime they earned and deliberately shredding documents a judge ordered him to keep to get away with it to selling the Chinese-made Buick Envision which “shipped [Ohio jobs] overseas.”

Sherrod will always fight for workers and the Dignity of Work because no matter who you are, where you live, or what job you do, he understands your work has dignity:

  • Sherrod helped secure critical investments to support Lima’s JSMC plant and the UAW workers who work there.
  • When Wall Street gambled away workers’ retirement savings, Sherrod led the years-long fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act – which successfully saved the pensions of over 100,000 Ohioans. Sherrod named the bill after Butch Lewis, an Ohio Teamster.
  • Sherrod has stood up to presidents of both parties against bad trade deals and policies that would hurt Ohio manufacturers and send Ohio jobs overseas.
  • Sherrod led the CHIPS and Science Act to ensure the future of technology is built in Ohio, by Ohio workers.
  • Sherrod worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with prevailing wage requirements and the strongest Buy American provisions creating good-paying jobs for Ohio workers in the trades.
  • Sherrod is also working to grow the next generation of Ohio workers by organizing summer manufacturing camps across Ohio, including in Lima, that give young people an opportunity to learn about a future in the industry.
