COLUMBUS, OH – Today, the Toledo Blade Editorial Board endorsed Sherrod for reelection, citing his work “
advocat[ing] for Ohio and for ordinary people” and his role saving the pensions of over 100,000 Ohio workers, capping the cost of prescription drugs, and working with both parties to pass legislation to protect Ohioans from dangerous fentanyl. The Editorial Board highlighted the stark contrast between Sherrod, who is “
dedicated” to Ohio, and his opponent, who “
has not yet earned the trust that Ohioans have come to place in Mr. Brown.”
The Toledo Blade’s endorsement follows an endorsement from the Cleveland.com Editorial Board who cited Sherrod’s “tireless work ethic” and “history of bipartisanship.” Earlier this year, an Ironton Tribune editorial also praised Sherrod’s “effective and productive” track record fighting for Ohioans.

Toledo Blade: Editorial: Re-elect Sherrod Brown
Toledo Blade Editorial Board – October 17, 2024
- U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) has been a dedicated officeholder who has advocated for Ohio and for ordinary people during his three terms in the U.S. Senate.
- It’s a record that should be rewarded with re-election.
- Senator Brown has been a strong supporter of the bedrock entitlement programs that seniors, veterans, and low-income people legitimately rely on, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
- He authored the bill to protect the pensions of some 100,000 Ohioans affected by the collapse of the Central States and other pensions, the Butch Lewis Act.
- He had a role in passing the $35 a month cap on insulin and he had a bill signed by former President Donald Trump, the Know the Lowest Price Act, to crack down on gag clauses prohibiting pharmacists from telling seniors how to save more money.
- Mr. Brown also offered the FEND Off Fentanyl Act that had bipartisan support, as well as the INTERDICT Act, which became law under President Trump, to give border patrol officers the latest technology to detect opioids before law enforcement officers are exposed or opioids can make it into Ohio communities.
- Senator Brown wrote and shepherded into law an effort to secure health benefits for veterans exposed to toxins during their service.
- He has been a strong voice in opposition to unfair international competition, including that from solar panels and steel from China.
- His work to pass the CHIPS Act paid off with Intel’s multibillion-dollar investment in a new computer chip plant outside Columbus.
- Other than parrot Republican talking points, we do not see a vision for a government that works for Ohioans [from Bernie Moreno]. Mr. Moreno has not yet earned the trust that Ohioans have come to place in Mr. Brown.
- We encourage a vote for the re-election of Sherrod Brown as Ohio U.S. Senator in the Nov. 5 election.
